APSCU Calls Gainful Employment Delay Very Appropriate


The Association of Private Sector Colleges and Universities (APSCU) said a Department of Education decision to delay publication of its Gainful Employment rule until early 2011 makes good sense and thanked the Department of Education for taking this step.

“Slowing the gainful employment train down is the right thing to do,” said APSCU President Harris N. Miller. “We applaud the Department of Education decision. This action allows time for careful consideration of the issues involved and the opportunity to avoid issuing a rule that would harm students, job growth and communities. We think the hearings the Department of Education will hold on this issue are also a good idea, providing the opportunity for thoughtful analysis and review.”

Miller continued: “With over 90,000 comments received-- we believe the most in the Department’s history on a regulatory proposal--employers, elected officials, community leaders, students, graduates, institutions and other interested parties have made their voices heard.
